If you haven’t been following this story, Bernie is 91, and has a photographic memory. He’s fought in numerous wars and has allowed me in to a wonderful world of vivid memories and undocumented stories that I have had the privilege of filming. He has always thought he was the last surviving member of the force sent in to clean up Hiroshima in 1945. But I have found not only surviving members of the force, but comrades he knew and fought beside 70 years ago. And they are having a reunion in March in Sydney. I’m trying to raise money for Bernie, his carer and myself to attend the reunion. And I’ll have the alcohol flowing and the film rolling. You can read more about Bernie’s story and the Podcast “Once Upon a Toxic Journey – The Candid Memoirs of Seaman Bernie” on the Indiegogo crowdfunding site.
